About the event

The Huni Kuin (Kaxinawá) are an ethnic group based in the lowland Amazon in the state of Acre, Brazil. They speak their own language called Hantxa Kuin and have a longstanding tradition of working with medicines of the rainforest. The Huni Kuin songs are ancient prayers invoking the forces of spirits of the forest and the sacred medicines, bringing physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Singing and listening to these ancient prayers lifts our frequency and manifests healing, transformation and joy.

In 2018 Kawá was the youngest Huni Kuin to leave his village in the forest to go to Europe. He arrived in Manchester together with his friend and anthropologist Verónica Castro with an intention to learn about life outside of the forest, how the “white people” live and to learn the English language in order to be able to represent his community to the English speaking world.
